Immolators and vandals never immolate in private. It is unmoored pride, a conceit and condescension, a performance impossible without its unwilling audience.

In this way it is almost parasitic. It needs something to destroy, and they always seem to go for the best aspects of humanity: our art, technology, dreams, freedom, and silence. It is a good fight.

Awesome meditation on us. Unfortunately, “the self-immolating mind” wants to emulate all. Thank you, Barry. I'm rooting for Elon as well. He is one of the few with both the means and the mind to make it happen, as well as the capacity to care nothing for the immolators who try to derail him.

Reading Sam's essay and your comment caused this song to flash in my mind. Music doesn't get any better than this. It's "Passin' through" by Earl Scruggs and Friends.

Texas politician Sam Rayburn said, “Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it took a good carpenter to build one.”

As always, great post.

Thank you, Jamie. Rayburn nailed it. We need more carpenters who do the work and less jackasses who curse it.
